smurphy?

MySmurphyLife??? Unless you are apart of the group that started the whole “Smurphy” thing, you are probably wondering…”Smurphy?” So I guess I should explain such a silly blog address.

I began life as Christa S. Castle in September of 1980. At 21, I married my summer love Billy Murphy. At that point I became Christa S. Murphy, but was still known by friends and family as plain ol’ Christa. 

When I was a child, I never had any nicknames. This was always a bit sad to me. I mean what is life without one or two great nicknames? BORING! Well, I guess you should be careful what you wish for. While working as the food safety supervisor for Bar-S Foods in Altus, I had more than my share. Anything from Flaca (skinny in Spanish) to Olive Oil, which was later shortened to just plain Olive, were the most popular. However, I am sure that there were many that I was unaware of (people just don’t like you much when you are in charge of USDA compliance.)

When I left Bar-S to start a new career in Association Management for the Altus Association of REALTORS, I left all the nicknames behind as well. That didn’t last for long though. I believe it was actually JoAnn that coined the name “Smurphy” and Renee who JUST WOULDN’T LET IT DIE!

I no longer work for the Association, but I am still in Real Estate. I am an office manager for Advantage Realty of Altus and work for the greatest bosses ON THE PLANET! (No, I am not sucking up! Cory & Gab will never have time to read this. They are REALTORS!) But, Smurphy, I still remain.
